Teen Track 2023-24 – L’Taken Social Justice Seminar – Grades 8-12
We created CBST’s Teen Track to serve our community’s post-B*Mitzvah teens and engage them in social-forward learning with our clergy and staff. The bi monthly program was created to cycle through 3 topics over a three-year cycle consisting of Civil Rights and trip to the south (this past school year 2022-23 year), Understanding Israel-Palestine (2018-19) and our L’Taken: Social Justice Seminar (last taught in 2016-17 and 2019-2020). The program has been a wonderful way for teens to engage in a very unique, hands-on learning model while building community with CBST peers. It has been so wonderful being a part of this special group of teens!
This year’s topical theme will focus around the American political system and explore intersections of ancient Jewish texts and contemporary political issues. Throughout our sessions, we aim to better understand the American legislative process and the relationship between our Jewish heritage and our duties as citizens of this country. The program cost will include our January 19-22, 2024 weekend trip to Washington D.C, for the L’Taken Social Justice Seminar (In partnership with the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (RAC)).
Teen Track 2023-24 will meet twice a month from 1:30-3pm at CBST 130 West 30th Street, on the same days as our Limmud programming.
Taught by CRRI Aliza Schwartz and CBST Adult and Teen Educator Miya Rotstein.

Immediately before COVID lockdowns in March 2020, CBST students participated in a 4-day Religious Action Center Social Justice and Advocacy Program in Washington, D.C.! (photos below) Prior to the trip, the class met twice-monthly in-person; afterward, they continued to meet twice monthly online, until June 2020!
