Irwin Kroot, Director

Irwin Kroot Irwin Kroot has been an active member of CBST for eight years, and joined the Board in 2024. He is a member of the CBST Community Chorus and has served as the Chorus Coordinator since August 2022. He served on the Senior Rabbi Search Committee from 2023 to 2024, and is currently the Chair of CBST’s Human Resources Advisory Team.

Beyond CBST, Irwin’s dedication to community service spans decades, including volunteer roles at the New York City LGBT Center, the Empire City Men’s Chorus, Stonewall 25, and NYC CyberQueers, and he founded the Coalition of Lesbian and Gay City Employees in the early 1990s. His professional expertise has focused on human resources and technology. His career has included roles as the Director of Human Resources Systems for Columbia University, the Chief Information Officer for the New York City Department of Education, and the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources at The New School. He retired from The New School in August, 2022.
