"Higid L'cha"

Steve Cohen’s “Higid L’cha” is a triumphant, glorious, and exuberant choral setting of some of the most essential and important verses from the Tanakh (Hebrew Scriptures).

This exciting piece was performed at CBST’s 50th Anniversary celebration Fifty and Fabulous by the phenomenal CBST Community Chorus, and conducted by Music Director Joyce Rosenzweig, with Mitchell Vines on piano.

Below are the words of this magnificent choral work, sung in Hebrew and English. These verses highlight the importance of building a society founded on ideals of decency and justice. As our world moves through increasingly difficult times, we strive to uphold the deep intrinsic values of understanding and love.

“We have been told what is good, we have been told what is required of us: / Justice, loving-kindness, humility.

“Commit no corruption of justice, favor not the poor, nor defer to the rich. / Judge all people with equity!

“Go not about spreading rumors.

“Hate not your brother, hate not your sister, hate not your sibling in your heart. / Rather love your sister, love your brother, love your sibling as yourself.

“And when strangers sojourn among you, do not wrong them. / To you, they shall be like the native born among you. / Love them as yourself. / For you were strangers – we were strangers – in Egypt.

“Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly be renewed. / Your light will rise in the darkness.”
