Shabbat Chanukah
A Chanukah candle is a powerful symbol of hope, even when a better future seems improbable.
Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum described the Chanukah story as one of defiance in the face of adversity. She urged resilience by building community, as Jewish people have always done.
“I want [future congregants] to look back on us—on me, on all of you—[and see] that we didn’t give into despair. That we held our values deeply to our souls. That we insisted on believing in a future that looks different than [the] present in which we live right now.”
Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum delivered this drashah at Kabbalat Shabbat services on Friday, December 8, 2023 / 19 Kislev 5784.
