Resist:
Standing Up for Each Other and for Every One of Our Neighbors

You shall not fear the terror that comes by night, nor the arrow that flies by day.

The Beacon Weekly Vigil for Democracy

Recording of Rapid Response call in response to ICE killing and lawlessness in Minneapolis followed by a summary by CRRI Alana Krivo-Kaufman:
  • Despair is crippling; community calls us to connection and action
  • Recognize our own each others humanity in fighting for the democracy we deserve.
  • Mourn and act — the killing of Renee Nicole Good was not beginning or end. 32 people died in ICE custody this past year; nine people were shot.
  • It will take each and everyone of us to build the future we deserve,
  • Make clear we won’t accept facism or feckless leaders by showing up peacefully and forcefully.
  • We can gain and spread courage when we mobilize en masse.
  • Accountability matters because dignity matters.
  • Resist those who try to smear Renee’s family by pitting us against each other. We will win by choosing to be in this together and that begins by telling our neighbors that we stand with them.
Some Jewish Teachings:
The first human being was created alone:
1) To teach you that anyone who destroys one soul… it is as if they destroyed an entire world, and anyone who sustains one soul…it is as if they sustained an entire world. [Helping even one person matters!]
2) For the sake of peace among people, so a person will not say to another: my ancestor is greater than your ancestor. [No one life is more important than any other life.]
3) So that heretics will not say: “There are many authorities in Heaven,” which tells of the greatness of the Holy Blessed One, because when a person stamps several coins with one seal, they are all similar to each other. But the supreme Ruler of rulers, the Holy Blessed One, stamped all people with the seal of the first human being, and not one of them is similar to another. Therefore, each and every person is obligated to say: The world was created for me, and perhaps you will say: Why would we bother with this trouble? But is it not already stated: “And someone being a witness, whether the person has seen or known, if the person does not give information, that person will be responsible. It is a transgression not to testify when one can do so. [Your actions matter and your role at any moment may be unique.]

It is better to acquit a thousand guilty persons than to put a single innocent one to death.

At a time when the community is suffering, no one should say, ‘I will go home, eat, drink, and be at peace with myself.”
