"Over the Rainbow"

CBST’s 50th Anniversary Pride Shabbat service was a spectacular celebration.

In the following excerpt from this service you will hear the iconic piece “Over the Rainbow,” popularized by the legendary Judy Garland in “The Wizard of Oz,” sung here by the magnificent CBST Community Chorus.

“Over the Rainbow,” has become a beloved anthem for the LGBTQ+ community. In this rich choral arrangement, we hear the call for an era of peace and full acceptance “where troubles melt like lemon drops.”

As we sing the words, “the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true,” we underscore the vision and perseverance of the dreamers and activists who fought for a world where all sexual orientations and gender identities would be celebrated.

Music: “Over the Rainbow.” Music: Harold Arlen (1905-1986). Arrangement: Mark Hayes (b. 1953). Text: Yip Harburg (1896-1991).

Sung by: The CBST Community Chorus

Conductor and pianist: CBST Music Director Joyce Rosenzweig
