Tanya Domi, Director
Tanya Domi first came to CBST in 2005 for High Holy Day services, which she continued to attend for many years. Following the tragic murders at the Tree of Life Synagogue, in Pittsburgh in 2018, she decided to join CBST as a member and adopted a regular Shabbat practice. Since then, Tanya became very active with CBST’s social justice initiatives and is currently working on the conflict related sexcual violence that occurred during the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023.
Professionally, Tanya is an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University and a faculty affiliate of the Harriman Institute, where she teaches human rights and international relations in the Western Balkans. Prior to joining the faculty in 2008, Domi worked on Capitol Hill for the late U.S. Rep. Frank McCloskey; and in the early 1990’s, served as his Defense Policy Analyst during his run up to the Bosnian war. She is currently a Senior Non-Resident Fellow at the New Lines Institute for Strategy and Policy, based in Washington, D.C.
Tanya was seconded by the U.S. State Department to the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, where she lived and worked side by side with Bosnians to rebuild the war-torn country immediately following the war. She is also a nationally recognized advocate for lifing the ban on gay people in the U.S. military, and was present for the bill signing by President Barack Obama in 2010. Tanya has lived in New York City since 2000.
