Johanna Sanders, Director

Johanna Sanders has called CBST “a home” since 2014 when she walked into the Church of Holy Apostles on a stormy Friday evening and received a warm welcome from Ilene Block. She has been involved in many ways at CBST, including as chair of Aleinu, as a member of the Strategic Planning Task Force, and now as a member of the Board of Directors.

Professionally, Johanna is the Director of Policy and Organizing at The Vaid Group, a practice dedicated to building initiatives that advance equity, justice and inclusion, where she also co-leads The National LGBTQ Anti-Poverty Action Network and The National LGBTQ+ Women*s Community Survey. She is attuned to her family’s German Jewish refugee experience, her upbringing in Queens, and a deep love for the creative and performing arts.
