Shabbat Chazon 2024
At Kabbalat Shabbat services on Friday, August 9, we remembered the 13
Jewish writers, poets, artists, musicians, and actors who were executed
in secret on August 12, 1952, in the Lubyanka Prison in Moscow. Our
community commemorated this grave tragedy by telling their story, and by
sharing glorious poetry and music.
Historian Dr. Wendy Goldman reflected on the artists’ plight, the history and context of the moment and what led up to their imprisonment and execution, and the absurdity of the charges against them. She also discussed the importance of preserving Yiddish language and culture, and more.
Guest speaker Dr. Wendy Goldman spoke at Kabbalat Shabbat services on Friday, August 9, 2024 / 6 Menachem Av 5784.
