Shabbat Shekalim

“How do we operate in the world today [to] make our world inhabitable by the divine?”

In her drashah, Cooperberg-Rittmaster Rabbinical Intern Aliza Schwartz compared the Israelites’ contributions to building a mishkan (tabernacle) to our own communal projects.

The Torah, she said, offers us guidance for success.

“When we build [with] communal ownership—when we see everyone with complete dignity, regardless of wealth or status—that’s when we’re able to create a dwelling place for the divine.”

Cooperberg-Rittmaster Rabbinical Intern Aliza Schwartz delivered this drashah at Kabbalat Shabbat services on Friday, March 8, 2023 / 29 Adar I 5784.

Be in community with CBST at Kabbalat Shabbat services, Fridays at 6:30 p.m. ET, either in person or streaming live.
