CBST Oneg: "Chapter Seven: Days of Celebration and Awe"

Judy Ribnick: “That first footstep into CBST was like, ‘Wow!’ I had so much deep Jewish involvement, and musical involvement, and was coming back out to myself. And to come in and feel all these pieces in one place was like a ‘Shehecheyanu’ moment. I think I cried. I realized I could bring my talents, my skills, and my passion for Jewish liturgical life, and communal life, to CBST.”

On Friday, July 28, Rabbi Kleinbaum was in conversation with CBST members Rick Landman, Judy Ribnick, and Larry Kay. Their discussion was based on “Days of Celebration and Awe,” the seventh chapter of Rabbi Ayelet Cohen’s book “Changing Lives, Making History: Congregation Beit Simchat Torah.”

The speakers all touched on the personal growth and self-discovery that comes from being in a community with both a deep commitment to Jewish tradition and a deep commitment to LGBTQ+ affirmation.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of CBST’s Open Door High Holy Day services, our approach to Holocaust memorials, and important moments in CBST’s ritual history.
