Shabbat Emor

Rabbi Werber on the meaning of counting the Omer and on finding abundance in our everyday blessings.

“The Omer is a special period of praying for blessing and abundance, the blessing of feeling like we have enough. It all leads up to Shavuot, the holiday commemorating receiving the Torah and needing dew to revive us. So perhaps it’s meant to be a seven-week-long meditation on feeling like we have enough, on noticing the everyday blessings, and then on Shavuot being reminded that so easily it could be taken from us.”

Rabbi Werber concludes:

“Every single morning, we get a small piece of that reviving dew: a chance to wake up and take part in the sweetness of life. The seven-week period of the Omer comes to remind us that that, in and of itself, is a miracle.”

Rabbi Yael Werber delivered this drashah at Kabbalat Shabbat services on Friday, May 5, 2023 / 15 Iyyar 5783.
