Shabbat Noach 2024

Rabbi Werber’s connection between Noah and the current moment showed us this week what we can do in moments like this: “We look towards the storm, the flood of hate and extremism that we are facing, and we turn instead to compassion and consolation and comfort. We try even in the face of extreme anger, to be sources of kindness and grace. That is the best weapon we have in our power against hate. So let’s all commit to at least trying to be sources of ‘nachama’ – ‘nachama, nachamo,’ sources of comfort to each other.” Watch the full talk at our link in bio.

Rabbi Werber reflected on the anxiety and uncertainty leading up to the 2024 election, and the biblical story of Noah, which mirrors this moment in many ways. These connections remind us to build safe spaces as our “arks of protection,” seek illumination, and be sources of comfort and joy.

Rabbi Yael Werber delivered this drashah at Kabbalat Shabbat services on Friday, November 1, 2024 / 1 Cheshvan 5784.
