Shabbat Mevarchim Chodesh Av 2024
“To everything there is a season, a time for slaying and a time for healing. A time for tearing down and a time for building up. A time for weeping and a time for laughing. A time for wailing in a time for dancing. A time for seeking and a time for losing. A time for keeping and the time for discarding.
“We all know that life often doesn’t give us these times so neatly parceled out. And so, instead, sometimes it is a time for both weeping and for joy, for both seeking and losing. It’s both a time to let go of the past and a time to embrace the future. It’s a time to guard the past and embrace going forward, all at the same time.
“Our parsha teaches us, and our leaders have taught us, that the future might be new or uncomfortable. But we are meant to be there.”
Rabbi Werber also said: “As a testament to Rabbi Kleinbaum’s legacy, this week, a video tour of this building came out. It’s narrated by Rabbi Kleinbaum and put together by the inimitable Jason Zivic. Thank you, Jason. And if you have not watched it, I must tell you, you have to watch it. It’s so beautiful. It’s moving. It’s powerful. It’s the story of our people, our Masei, our journeys together. You can find it on the CBST YouTube.”
Assistant Rabbi Yael Werber delivered this drashah at Kabbalat Shabbat services on Friday, August 2, 2024 / 28 Tamuz 5784.
