Shabbat Mevarchim Chodesh Elul 2024

“The author of Deuteronomy asserts that G-d blessed us with sufficient resources for everyone. What would it be like to actually believe that with enough human action, a society without poverty could actually exist,” said Cooperberg-Rittmaster Rabbinical Intern Adam Graubart.

At Kabbalat Shabbat services, CRRI Adam Graubart reflected on his two-year tenure at CBST, expressing gratitude for the supportive community that allowed him to grow professionally and personally.

In his farewell drashah, he looked at the Torah’s mandate to eliminate poverty, drawing parallels between sacred promises and contemporary New York’s wealth disparities. CRRI Adam underscored the Torah’s command to alleviate poverty, suggesting practical steps like tithing, volunteering, and advocating for systemic changes.

CRRI Adam Graubart delivered this drashah at Kabbalat Shabbat services on Friday, August 30, 2024 / 27 Av 5784.
