50th Anniversary Oneg: "Chapter 5: Rabbinic and Lay Leadership"

On May 12, 2023, Rabbi Kleinbaum and Rabbi Werber were in conversation with four former CBST Cooperberg-Rittmaster Rabbinical Interns, who are now all ordained rabbis and serve communities across the globe, including Rabbi Mychal Copeland (CRRI 1999–2000); Rabbi David Dunn Bauer (CRRI 2000–2001); Rabbi Elana Friedman (CRRI 2014–2015); and Rabbi Roderick Young (CRRI 1996–1997 and 1998–1999; CBST assistant Rabbi 1999–2002).

Rabbi David Dunn Bauer: “Where else but CBST can you be recognized for your rabbinic work and the particular aspects of your queer identity that you would have had to hide elsewhere in the Jewish world? … The internship changes us. And then we go out and we change institutions. We change the world. So from CBST, the power of queer Judaism, and the power of queer and queer-aware rabbinate—the impact is huge.”

We’re so grateful each of the rabbis could join us for this wonderful conversation!

We very much look forward to our next 50th Anniversary Oneg, “Chapter 6: Inscribing the Text“, including speakers Marsha Melnick and Jack Greenberg, on Friday, June 9, 2023.
