CBST's Ark Immigration Clinic Advocates for Change in Albany

CBST’s Ark Immigration Clinic Director Noah Habeeb (above right) and Immigration Clinic Navigator Azeem Khan (above left) had a productive and meaningful three-day trip to Albany, NY, from January 21-23, 2024.

Noah and Azeem were in Albany for the New York Immigrant Coalition’s 7th Annual Member Congress with the team “Building Immigrant Power and a Welcoming New York.”

Day One. The advocacy began right off the bus with a welcome ceremony followed by a schedule overview, dinner, and a networking event.

Day Two. This jam-packed day included a state leadership address, state campaigns, support for recent arrivals to New York, legislative and budget strategies, and storytelling.

Day Three. Our Day of Action included lobbying 101 followed by a loud and rowdy march from the hotel to the New York State Legislature. We gathered on the steps for a press conference with remarks from the NYIC’s Executive Director Murad Awawdeh, state leaders, and personal testimonies.

The 250-plus participants joined groups to represent the five state budget priorities: access to representation, language access, housing access, NY for All, and working families tax credit.
