Understanding Israel and Palestine:  Beyond History, Culture, People & Land

Twice monthly, Saturdays 1:30PM – 3PM, taught by Rabbi Marisa James and Miya Rotstein

This coming fall, we will be focusing our Teen Track on Israel and Palestine. In these difficult times, it is imperative that our teens have the language and context to talk about the complexities of Israel and Palestine with knowledge and nuance. In this class, we hope to teach from a multitude of angles, facets, stories and histories. Together we will ask the difficult questions:  What is our connection to the Land, State and people of Israel and Palestine? Where do we feel pulled and where do we feel pushed in these connections as Jews, as Americans and as young adults?  What space do we hold as people who care about the dignity and safety of Israelis, Palestinians, and all who have a stake in a peaceful future?

We expect this twice-monthly class to be vibrant, thought provoking and interactive. Teens will be encouraged to use their capacity for critical thinking to form ideas and grapple with hard subject. We hope that they continue to build their own personal connections to Israel and all it encompasses with strong foundation in both the history and present tense of Israel and Palestine. We want to give our teens a language with which to speak about Israel and Palestine especially in times when they are inundated with so much information from social media, news outlets, and peers. Please join us for what will be an incredible learning opportunity!

Teen Track 2024-25 will meet twice a month from 1:30-3pm at CBST 130 West 30th Street, on the same days as our Limmud programming.
