Courses 


Mussar Meditations with Rabbi Moskowitz - Register Now
Monday – Friday, 8:30-8:45 a.m., May 2 through July 1
CBST Scholar-in-Residence Rabbi Mike Moskowitz teaches the fourth chapter of Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin’s work, Nefesh HaChaim. Rabbi Moskowitz will stream each teaching live from the CBST Facebook Page. Recording of each teaching will be immediately available in the CBST Facebook Videos section archive.

Cantillation Intensive (Registration is closed)
Frequency: Tuesdays, 6:15 – 7:30 p.m.
8 Sessions: May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31; June 7, 14, 21
Open to all. Required for Adult B’nai Mitzvah (ABM). Students will learn Torah trop to prepare them to chant from CBST’s Torah scrolls. Although open to all, this class is geared towards students of the ABM cohort who will be learning their individual aliyot for their ABM. Non-ABM students are welcome to contact mrotstein@cbst.org with any questions. This class will be evenly divided into three separate sections, each covering the same content, to provide the best class size experience for all. Cantillation Drop-in Office Hours

This drop-in time is open to Cantillation Intensive registrants. A weekly signup form will be shared with registrants.

Haftarah Cantillation with Jack Greenberg (Registration is closed)
Frequency: Thursdays, 6:15-7:30 p.m.

Join CBST Educator Jack Greenberg for a cantillation course in which students will learn to chant Haftarah. Students will receive zoom info to attend by Monday, May 2. Recordings will be made available at cbst.org/content/class-recordings

Parashat HaShavuah with Rabbi Rapport - Register Now
Fridays, 10:00-10:45 a.m., May 6 through July 1
This course is a study of the week's Torah portion, or parashah. This text study provides an opportunity to learn and grapple with the meaning of the weekly Torah portion, guided by Rabbi Yael Rapport. Check out Rabbi Rapport’s Sefaria Source sheet here. Intro to Mishnah and Talmud with Rabbi Moskowitz - Register Now
Monday – Thursday, 10:00-10:45 a.m., May 9 through June 30
Intro to Mishnah and Talmud is an opportunity to explore the transmission of the Oral Torah. We will be studying tractate Moad Katon, which focuses on finding an appropriate balance between engaging in and refraining from mundane activities in times of celebration and mourning. This course is open to all and will be conducted online, via zoom. Recordings will be made available at cbst.org/content/class-recordings

Women in Song - Register Now
Frequency: Wednesdays, 6:00-7:15 p.m.
4 Sessions: May 11, 18, 25; June 1
Join CBST Educator Miya Rotstein for a 4 week Hebrew mini-course. All levels welcome! Each week will focus on a collection of literary work in translation by four prominent Israeli female poets and songwriters. Additionally, we will read parts of the texts in Hebrew to lend further depth and perspective. We will examine literary themes as well as talk about the historic context they lived and how that influenced the themes of their writing. Rabbi Murder Mysteries with Rabbi Rapport: An Intergenerational Book Group! - Register Now
Frequency: Thursdays, 7:30-8:30 p.m.
3 Sessions: June 9, 16, 23
“Friday the Rabbi Slept Late” is a classic - a 60s era whodunit featuring one of the few rabbinic protagonists in modern literature. A queer contemporary homage has just been published, “The Rabbi Who Prayed with Fire” - and an LGBTQ synagogue book group is too good to resist! Debate the updates and dig into the deeper questions about how our Jewish community, leadership, and world have changed with Rabbi Rapport and special guests!   • Refunds for course fees cannot be accommodated after Friday, May 6. 
  • Course Fees: $250 ($150 for members) per course. We appreciate any additional contributions at your discretion to support Adult Education at CBST.
  • Zoom Information will be sent out to registrants on Monday, May 2 by 5:00 p.m.
  • Adult B* Mitzvah Students are required to take the Cantillation Intensive course.
  • Recordings will be made available to registrants. 
  • Scholarship and payment plans are available for members experiencing financial hardship. Contact jkatz@cbst.org with the subject line "Lehrhaus Scholarship or Payment Plan Request." Please allow time for processing. We will respond to scholarship or payment plan requests by Monday, May 2.
