Laurie Magid, Director

Laurie Magid has been a member of CBST since 2015, and a Board member since 2019. Laurie received her B.S. in Finance from the Wharton School of Business/U. Penn, in 1982, and her J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1985. She has been an Assistant United States Attorney in Philadelphia, since 2001. In addition, she has taught at Rutgers, Villanova, Temple, and Widener Law Schools, and currently serves on committees of the Columbia University Senate and on Columbia’s Alumnae Leadership Group. She lives in Philadelphia, but spends a lot of time on Amtrak as she tries to make it to every wonderful CBST Shabbat service on Friday nights. As one of the leaders of CBST’s Ending Mass Incarceration Team, she has focused on educating our community about criminal justice reform through books, movies, and speakers, and on having us partner with re-entry organizations to support formerly incarcerated people and their families. She and her husband, Jeffrey Miller, have three grown children — Julia, Henry, and Nicholas – and four grandchildren.
