Global LGBTQ Concerns

CBST works regularly with organizations like AJWSHIAS, and RUSA LGBT to support LGBTQ people being persecuted in their countries of origin or who have been forced to become refugees or asylees.

In the Fall of 2015, with strong support from UJA-Jewish Federation of New York, CBST inaugurated Welcoming the Stranger, an English-Language Conversation Program with Russian-speaking LGBTQ asylees. The focus of this project for Jewish Social Action Month was to provide LGBTQ asylees from the former Soviet Union with much needed practice in English-language conversation. Volunteers from the CBST community had a tremendous personal impact through sharing their time and experience of the City with amazing people who have had no choice but to seek asylum here.
