NESHAMA CARLEBACH at CBST - Kabbalat Shabbat Services & Oneg
NESHAMA CARLEBACH at CBST - 3/13, 6:30 pm, Kabbalat Shabbat Services & Oneg
CBST invites you to a special evening with awardwinning singer, songwriter and educator, Neshama Carlebach. Neshama will join CBST for Kabbalat Shabbat services, and then following services, will offer some more beautiful music while in conversation with Senior Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum around Neshama’s relationship to her father, and to the Me Too movement. “I accept the fullness of who my father Shlomo Carlebach was, flaws and all. I am in this conversation. I am also broken. (Neshama Carlebach, “My sisters, I hear you,” The Times of Israel).”
A six-time entrant in the Grammy Awards, Neshama has sold over one million records, making her one of today’s best-selling Jewish artists in the world. As the first then-Orthodox woman of her generation to perform for a mixed-gender audience, Neshama is a strong advocate for religious pluralism and human rights. She has sparked public conversations with brave forays into the place of women in Judaism and today’s world. Read more at https://neshamacarlebach.com/bio/
The core of CBST's religious life is our weekly Kabbalat Shabbat service. Service leadership is shared among congregants, Senior Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum, Assistant Rabbi Yael Rapport, and our Cooperberg-Rittmaster Rabbinical interns, and Cantorial intern. Music Director and pianist, Joyce Rosenzweig directs the CBST Community Chorus on a regular basis. CBST's own prayer book, "With All Your Heart" incorporates Hebrew prayers, English readings, and both traditional and modern songs. A drash is delivered each week by one of the Rabbis, an intern, a member of the congregation, or on occasion by a special guest. The Oneg that follows each service provides an opportunity to meet new people and connect with long-standing friends. Services are livestreamed on https://www.facebook.com/BeitSimchatTorah. All are always welcome to CBST services, always without charge.
