CBST, the Middle East & Me: J Street U’s “Let Our People Know”
Join CBST, the Middle East & Me team for a compelling discussion on J Street U's "Let Our People Know" campaign which asks "American Jewish students to sign a pledge to only participate in organized trips to Israel that include meetings with both Israelis and Palestinians and that show participants how the occupation impatcs daily life in the West Bank. (jstreet.org)"
We will be hearing from two college students who participated in J Street U's "Ta Shema" Israel and Palestine trip. For more info, visit Jstreet.org. This discussion is open to all CBST members, but we ask you to please RSVP to email@example.com so we know you're coming.
About the speakers:
- Leora Nevins lives in Morningside Heights and is a senior at Brandeis. She is majoring in Environmental Studies and minoring in Judaic Studies. Leora lived in the North of Israel during the Fall of 2015 and has been there many other times to visit family and friends. However, this trip was her first time engaging seriously with Israeli and Palestinian politics.
- Elam Boockvar-Klein grew up on the Upper West Side and is currently attending Colorado College in Colorado Springs. He is a Sociology major, with a minor in Spanish. Elam has been involved with J Street since his freshman year, but had never been to Israel except for a short trip as a young kid. He was particularly excited to humanize the politics of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict this time around.
CBST, the Middle East & Me works to create space for discussion and reflection on our engagement with the people of Israel, Palestine and the conflict that remains between them. We are working to build community by exploring our differing opinions and taking pride in the multiplicity of perspectives that make our community strong.
