NIMBY - Naches In My Back Yard

Last Thursday was Ann and my 3rd wedding anniversary (NOT marriage. We're still outlaws.), and my parents too us out for dinner on Friday. I thought I'd share with you our recent experience at Buenos Aires Tango, an Argentinian restaurant in Forest Hills, Queens.

You can read about it in a blog I contribute to here.

How cool is Governor Paterson?

Answer: WAAAY cool!

Check out this wonderful video presentation The Guv made to a Rochester fund-raiser fo ESPA.

It is a much more meaningful 5-minutes than playing Scrabulous. Make sure you watch it until the end.

And then, read about Paterson's May 14th directive to State agencies to recognize out-of-state, legal same-sex marriages, and change all procedural language to do so.

You can send Gov. Paterson a thank you here:

Please take a moment to call the Governor at 518-474-8390 and thank him for issuing this directive to state agencies.  When you place your call be sure and provide your name and your zip code.

Finally, what is the lesson we learn from these groundbreaking moves?

Never underestimate the power of being the "gay uncle" or "lesbian aunt."

SPONSOR our own WYLIE TENE IN THE "OUT OF THE DARKNESS"
The overnight walk for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

Wylie's work at the AFSP helps promote resources and understanding for the prevention of suicide. Each year, the AFSP holds an overnight walk to raise money.

Sponsor Wylie and read what he has to say about this critical issue:

"Research, education, awareness and ending the stigma of mental illness and suicide are vital to prevention and saving lives. This is what AFSP is working on, tirelessly, each and every day.

"AFSP is developing an educational film on depression for use in high schools to educate teens and teachers about depression and to encourage help seeking behavior. But we need funds to help get these films into schools across the country.

"Back in November, AFSP held a conference on suicide behavior in the Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual and Transgender community. This is an issue that is very misunderstood and understudied. AFSP is committed to filling the gaps and taking this issue head on, but we need your support.

"We need your support ($) to continue this important work. This past year, AFSP has awarded $2.5 million in new research - a fraction of a drop in the bucket that is really needed. The importance of research cannot be over expressed! We need more, so we can fund more research.

"Please support our efforts. Together we can save lives!"

Love,
Wylie
