CBST Trans Rituals

Marking Lifecycles at CBST

The clergy staff of CBST welcomes members who wish to mark life-cycles or ritual moments with us—lifecycles that are specific to transgender experience as well as those that are not.  Transgender members are warmly invited to observe any of these or other lifecycles at CBST--publicly, privately, or both.  Please contact us for further information.

  • Change of gender identity
  • Blessings before and after physical transition milestones
  • Change or addition of a Hebrew name
  • Change or addition of an English name
  • A mi shebeirach (general blessing) for someone experiencing change or an important moment—specific or non-specific
  • Bat/bar mitzvah (adult or teenager)
  • Kiddushin (wedding/commitment ceremony)
  • Conversion
  • Mourning rituals
  • Birth and adoption

CBST observes the Transgender Day of Remembrance at an annual Friday night service in November.  The Transgender Day of Remembrance honors the memory of those in the trans community who have died by violence.
