Main Service: Kabbalat Shabbat
The core of CBST's religious life is our main
Kabbalat Shabbat service every Friday night at 9th Avenue and 28th Street
in Chelsea. The
Kabbalat Shabbat service is held Fridays at 7:00 pm at our Chelsea location. Leadership is shared among congregants, Rabbi Sharon
Kleinbaum and Rabbi Ayelet Cohen, and our Cooperberg-Rittmaster Rabbinical
Interns. Joyce Rosenzweig, our music director and pianist, and the CBST
Community Chorus participate in the service on a regular basis. Led using
CBST's own prayer book, this warm service incorporates Hebrew prayers,
English readings, and both traditional and modern songs. A drash is given every
week. The kiddush that follows each service provides an opportunity to
meet new people and connect with old friends.
Diversity
Members also organize several other minyanim that take place on a weekly
or monthly schedule. These include the monthly Traditional
Egalitarian and bimonthly Liberal
minyanim.
CBST is a unique resource in New York
City's
Jewish life. All CBST services are open to all genders and are fully egalitarian.
Locations
When Jewish holidays coincide with Shabbat,
CBST's Friday-night services are held at the Church
of the Holy Apostles in Chelsea. Otherwise, we meet for holiday services
in our West
Village Sanctuary
at 57 Bethune Street. Our High Holy Day services
take place in larger venues throughout Manhattan.
Children's Shabbat and Holiday Services
CBST offers a variety of Shabbat and holiday services especially for children and
their families. Please see our Children's Programming page for more information.
For more information about any of our services or holiday observances, please call the synagogue office at (212)
