Can a pop song be a radical form of protest?  Can one voice and a guitar subvert a government’s agenda?  Like the American music of the ‘60s and ‘70s which reached millions with their messages of hope, peace, and the need for change, Israel’s long tradition of political expression through popular song spans the decades.  From the Pioneer dreams of the founding of the State to the integration of Jews of color into the modern State, from the Six Day War to the first Intifada, the Israeli song has voiced despair, anger, and hope for transformation and coexistence. Listen, learn, sing along, and eat some humus with Rabbi Cohen and Cantor Berger.
