About
Congregation Beth Simchat Torah is committed to the idea that gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Jews are wholly legitimate members of the Jewish people, are equally legitimate members of civil society, and have a unique and essential contribution to make to the life of Judaism and society. It is this commitment to social justice and gender equality that has also attracted straight and even non-Jewish adults to our community.

CBST is a powerful voice within Judaism in the world-wide discourse on the nature of religious community and in the movement to secure basic civil rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people in the United States and throughout the world.
Our community is your community. Meet the people who keep our congregation going. We are a diverse group of religious leaders, rabbinical and cantorial interns, professional staff, and volunteers.
Since 1973, Congregation Beth Simchat Torah has been a home and haven for LGBTQ Jews and our allies in and around New York City.
CBST recently launched a relationship with StoryCorps—one of America’s largest oral history projects—as a means of recording the personal stories that make up the collective memoirs/oral history of the synagogue.
As a CBST member, you are invited to participate in all of our services and events.
