36th Anniversary Celebration & Concert
In an evening of joyous celebration and song, CBST marked its 36th Anniversary with a special concert on June 3rd.
Headlined by Joyce Rosenzweig, Cantor David Berger and the CBST Community Chorus, the evening served as celebration of history, community and achievement. About 150 guests gathered to mark the synagogue's 36th ("double chai") year as well as to express their appreciation and bid a hearty farewell to Cantor Berger, who will be married this summer to his partner, Dror Chaikin, and will be relocating to the West coast.
Reflecting on the past four years spent at CBST, Cantor Berger talked about how the community had helped foster his own spiritual and professional development. And he used the occasion to sing from the heart -- with special songs and Psalms of gratitude in homage to great rabbis and blessings for community.
In an extra treat, Cantor Berger was joined by guest soprano, Renee Santer, his teacher of many years, in a duet of "Make Our Garden Grow," Leonard Bernstein's seminal work from Candide, the classic satire of mindless optimism. Dr. Santer is on the faculty at the Mannes College of the New School for Music.
